We Have Always Been At War With Eurasia

It seems like only a few years ago (a few decades ago?!) we had to keep the Russkies contained behind their Iron Curtain, otherwise they would turn us all into Godless Commies and sap us of all our precious bodily fluids. After Die Mauer fell, Yeltsin drank himself to death, and the Russians once again became good Capitalists, we thought that we would be friends and allies and live happily ever after.

But then Russia disturbingly started to recover economically, and much worse, they began to recover their pride, and then they started complaining about the NATO military bases that just happened to be innocently next to their borders. Worst of all they actually started to resist the world Hegemon and thus became the target for a good dose of Democracy, American style.

So now they are the evil Russkies again – not because they are commies, just because they are Evil. And when Russia tentatively began to assert their power over their border states, they were universally condemned by All The Free Peoples Of The World. I guess the Russians forgot to proclaim a Monroe Doctrine (or Czar Alexander doctrine).

One of these border disputes in 2014 was in a place called the Crimea, that has a long long history of disputes. There was even a vote by the Crimean people to remain part of Russia, but that doesn’t mean The Free World accepted it.

Coincidentally there was a similar dispute in the 19th century that took place largely in the Crimea, with ultimately the same result as our recent crisis. In the 19th century of course it was America’s puppet state, Airstrip One, that led the charge against the Russkies, along with the French (whom they hated), and the Ottoman Empire (whom they despised and abused, but at least they were not Russians).
